Electric mower, weed whacker, and pole saw
Submitted by: Eve Wittenberg
Bought all Ego tools so batteries are interchangeable and use same charger. Best part is that they start with a button instead of a pull-cord, which is immensely easier. Plus they're SO quiet!
electric car
Submitted by: Suzanne Daines
We bought a Volvo XC40 all electric last year. It has been a fantastic car. I drive a lot for work and usually have plenty of charge for my daily driving. When we go on longer trips, we plan ahead. We also have a Pacifica hybrid plug-in which is enough to get us one way to work. We have drastically reduced our gas consumption.

New hybrid water heater

Loving our new heat pump water heater. Added benefit - it dehumidifies the basement!
Prius Prime

We love to use the electric scharge. It is especially appreciated for local trips. I go for a long time without putting gas in it. The maintenance costs have been minimal.
Drip irrigation
Submitted by: Libby Levison
I have added drip irrigation to my raspberries, blueberries and flower gardens, including the wildflower patch. The drip lines mean water is applied to the ground. Less water is wasted than using a sprinkler and less evaporates.
Went shopping at a small local farm in Georgia!
Submitted by: Sarina Linde
Last week, my family and I traveled to Georgia, there was an outdoor supermarket nearby. We found a stand that sold food from their local family-run farm, and we bought produce.
Little things help
Submitted by: Joseph Schmidt
We use back porch laudry line to dry our clothes. We are unplugging appliances that we are not using. We did a mass save audit prior to mini split install. They provided two smart power strips which are used for our entertainment devices such as TV and computer devices, printer, PC.
We also use open windows at night to cool house as opposed to air conditioning.
MassSave Audit
Submitted by: Lina Formichelli
We engaged with mass save to conduct an energy audit of our home. As a result of the audit, we changed our heating system to a more efficient unit. We also changed all our lighting to LED.

Backyard composting led to backyard bounty!
Submitted by: Jennifer Smithwood-Green
We're becoming less and less reliant on multiple grocery trips by raising and growing the majority of our produce in our own yard.
Every little bit counts
Submitted by: Hugh Silk
We have been trying to chip away at being better environmentalists. We are avid composters and recently switched our process to barrel composting with 2 going so we can let fresh stuff rot and finish off the old compost. It all goes into the garden or the raspberry bushes. It is easy! We have recently convinced a number of other people to do it. Saves on garbage waste so saves you money, is good for the environment, and helps the garden grow - win, win, win!
Compost

Using a compost bin for your kitchen scraps and leftovers is a great way to take care of yourself and help your garden. When you put things like fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells into a compost bin instead of throwing them away, you’re not only cutting down on waste, but you’re also helping the planet.
The compost that you create from these scraps turns into rich soil that can make your plants grow strong and healthy. This simple process not only helps you get rid of waste in a better way, but it also gives your plants the nutrients to grow a healthy garden.

Loving our Mazda PHEV

We were so grateful to be able to plug in at Hildreth before getting our home charger - just installed it this week! 🎉
8kw are awesome

Replaced most of our electric demand... (Including car) with 8kw of solar. Thanks New England Clean Energy.
Harvard Community Solar Garden
Submitted by: Libby Levison
I'm lucky to be a member of the Harvard Community Solar Garden. I generate enough credit during the spring, summer and fall to cover my electricity use during the winter.
Electric car.

Switched my only car to an electric Ford. It's been excellent. Haven't been to a gas station in months.

Compost tumbler

Have had and used for over 20 years. Does a good job of making nutrient rich compost we use for new plantings.

Ryobi Lawn Tools
Submitted by: Andrew Wilcox
The weed whacker, hedge trimmer and blower run well enough and I get to take a break when the battery runs out of juice!
meadow landscaping
Submitted by: Teresa Garti
We let our grass grow and over the years, mowed bi-annually to prevent the establishment of trees, removed invasive plants, and introduced native seeds and plants. The meadow is thriving and the mowed paths are far more interesting than "lawn". We maintain a small lawn area for meadow viewing.

Powercut 21 mower

Switched last year. Love the ease and low maintenance. Battery time is good and getting better but still need to swap batteries to complete yard. Tourque on self propel is amazing

Harvard Solar Garden
Submitted by: Gary Helmstetter
Our roof is shaded by a neighbor's trees, so we were thrilled to be informed of an effort to create a Solar Garden in Harvard, over 10 years ago. It took many years, and massive volunteer efforts by several individuals, but we are proud founding members. We have 5 KW of "nameplate" solar, and now that we are driving an EV, would love to have even more to keep it charged purely from sunshine.

Going solar
Submitted by: arlene genova
The fourth year in living in our new/old (1781) home, our window air conditioners did not keep up on the hottest summer days. We decided to take advantage of the sun beating down on our property and we installed a 22 panel, 8 kW solar system with battery (Generac). Last year our system exceeded expectations producing about 1.1 MWh with all the savings that implies (see electric rate increase last year). We also signed up to sell our battery energy back to the grid ($2.25/kWh) for additional savings. After a year and a half, we are thrilled with the performance of our solar installation. When we added our solar system, we also installed mini-splits for cooling our home. (The combination of solar power with mini-split heat pumps seems compelling enough to be offered as a package by appropriate vendors.)

I've been composting for over 30 years, less going into the landfill and great for the soil.
